Richard brings his extensive years of credit union senior leadership experience to this new role. He has been successfully leading Tandia as the President and CEO for seven years now and his credit union career has spanned 40 years in various roles including a combined 28 years as a CEO in Ontario and British Columbia. Central 1 relies on the collective knowledge, experience and skill of each Director and the Board for its effective governance and Richard was clearly a strong candidate in this regard.
It is important that Directors have the appropriate competency requirements in order to fulfill their oversight responsibilities to Central 1 and its members and thereby, contribute to enhancing the credit union system. During his credit union career Richard has been actively involved in system committees, Peer Groups, Associations and has been a member of the Alliance of Large Ontario Credit Unions (ALOCU) since 2014. With Richard’s education credentials, extensive experience with a variety of credit unions and his passion for the value and importance of co-operation, Richard brings a keen awareness and understanding of the issues facing credit unions in Ontario, as a voice at the table. In his nomination profile he stated, “I believe I have a solid understanding of the priorities and challenges of small, medium and large credit unions. With this knowledge I feel it is time to contribute to the ongoing success of Central 1 for the benefit of all credit unions, as we face accelerating and unrelenting change.”
