'Tandia' is rooted in two meaningful words, 'tandem', meaning 'together' and 'dia', the Spanish word for 'day'. It uniquely captures our promise to work alongside our members each and every day to help build financially healthy futures.

While our name may be relatively new, our Credit Union has a rich past. In 2014, two credit unions, each with a long history and deep roots in the community, joined together to become Tandia Financial Credit Union.

It all started with Hamilton-based Teachers Credit Union, established in 1940, which strived to offer a more positive financial experience for educational employees and their families than what was offered by the banks. Prosperity ONE was formed just a few years later in 1957 to serve the Halton community. It, too, was born of the same vision - to deliver a better and more inclusive banking experience.

Then in 2017, Toronto-based MemberOne Credit Union and its bond with WSIB employees throughout Ontario merged with Tandia. Here we are today offering a range of virtual services with nine branches and our Member Solutions Centre. 

Tandia is unique to southern Ontario and we are very connected to our cities, towns and neighbourhoods. It allows us to be more flexible and responsive to our members and means we really care about your business.

Yes, you do. A fundamental operating principle of all Credit Unions is democratic ownership and it clearly sets us apart from other financial institutions. When you open an account at Tandia for personal, business or organization purposes, you are asked to make a one-time $25 Member Shares deposit to formally acquire your membership rights and privileges.

Your Member Shares entitle you to use all of the services of the Credit Union and have a vote on major issues placed before the Membership including the election of our Board of Directors. Member Shares are not a fee; they represent your share of democratic ownership in Tandia. Should you ever decide to leave, your Member Shares would be returned to you.
