‘tandem’ which means ‘together’ and dia’, the Spanish word for ‘day’
Welcome to better service, exceptional rates, and a cooperative business model that recognizes that it’s about people, not just profits.
At Tandia, you’re not a number, you’re an individual and you’re our neighbour from down the street. You’re unique, and that matters to us. At Tandia, you’re not just our customer, you’re a member and an owner. That means you can be confident that your unique needs come first. We understand that everyone is different, and we tailor solutions that are just right for you.
We’re different too.
We believe that financial institutions should be more accountable to the people they serve; we believe that there’s more than one way to measure success; and we believe that our profits should have a positive financial, social and environmental impact on the communities in which we live and work. Actions speak louder than words and we work hard to demonstrate our commitment each and every day.
‘Tandia’ is rooted in two meaningful words, ‘tandem’, meaning ‘together’ and ‘dia’, the Spanish word for ‘day’. It uniquely captures our promise to work alongside members each and every day to help build financially healthy futures.
Tandia is driven to lead the cooperative banking movement by delivering unparalleled products and services through a mutually rewarding relationship with our members and the communities we serve.
Respect, integrity and innovation - these values are the foundation of Tandia. Our members come first and each one is unique. We strive every day to gain and maintain your trust. We also welcome change and operate with a spirit of openness and flexibility.
Mutually rewarding and enduring relationships are at the core of who we are and how we operate. Our members come first and each member is unique. Your concerns are our concerns and we strive every day to gain and maintain your trust.
We are committed to providing the highest level of service delivered with sensitivity and care. We also wholeheartedly embrace our role as a leading corporate citizen and endeavour to support the needs and interests of the wider community in everything we do.
We welcome change and operate with a spirit of openness and flexibility. We don't accept the status quo. This means never resting on our laurels and always being responsive to the needs of our members and the communities in which we operate.
International Credit Union Day, coordinated by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. It was established to acknowledge the credit union model, history and commitment to communities locally, nationally and internationally.

While our name may be relatively new, our Credit Union has a rich past. In 2014, two credit unions, each with a long history and deep roots in the community, joined together to become Tandia Financial Credit Union. It all started with Hamilton-based Teachers Credit Union, established in 1940 which strived to offer a more positive financial experience for educational employees and their families than what was offered by the banks. Prosperity ONE was formed just a few years later in 1957 to serve the Halton community. It, too, was born of the same vision - to deliver a better and more inclusive banking experience.
In 2017, Toronto-based MemberOne Credit Union and its bond with WSIB employees throughout Ontario merged with Tandia and we gained a branch location for all members in downtown Toronto.
Today, we are proud that the spirit of our original Credit Unions and their founding members lives on in Tandia. We continue to seek ways to grow our Credit Union and improve the financial health of the people and communities we serve. From our grass-roots Member Referral Rewards Program, to our advertising and business development initiatives and involvement in our communities, we seek to continually grow our membership strategically throughout Ontario.
